Xin Nian Kuai Le

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating the close of the decade, and the opening of a new beginning! 2020 is going to be an amazing year, and I get to spend all of it doing the Lord's work here in Calgary:)) Seriously there is nothing else I'd rather be doing! The first 6 months went a little bit too quick. I'm hoping 2020 go a little slower so I can really fulfill my purpose in Canada. That sounds a little clique but it's true! This week was pretty awesome, I have a really cool story that contains 2 really awesome miracles. But, that will be included here in these highlights:)

New ESL cards
So last Pday we had dinner at a members house down south. We planned on only being there for an hour or so but things didn't go as planned! Halfway though our dinner I get a call from the zone leaders "you know those cards that you made, yea can you get those ordered tonight?" !.I didn't make any cards and 2. I wasn't anywhere near a computer. So we left dinner and rushed all the way back to the chapel to start designing these new ESL pass along cards. 45 minutes later I finished making them and got them ordered just in time to get home for curfew! (pic attached of what they look like:))

Exchange with Elder Zhu
Went on exchanges this week! Got the opportunity to be with, the legend, Elder Zhu for 24 hours. It was a really great day, we got a lot done and I learned alot for him. The biggest thing that I learned is that my comp and I should only be speaking chinese, at least 80% of the time. Choi isn't too happy though since he is trying to learn English!

Tracking with Elder Oliver (the miracles)
A spanish elder and a chinese elder walking around in a low budget part of town is destined to have something happen!
Miracle number 1:
Elder Choi and I got to go on splits with the central zone leaders since they needed Elder Choi's language skills in a lesson. This allowed me to go tracting with a GOAT missionary named Elder Oliver. We went knocking a few houses around the area. The first one to actually be home/open the door was a nice tagalog family! The mother politely refused to listen to our message and kindly turned us away. As we were leaving her husband walked up the driveway with a long look on his face. We got talking to him about our church and the happiness it can bring to families, and bore simple testimony of the truth of this Gospel. One thing led to another and he eventually told us that he had just come from the hospital since has not been feeling too good. I offered to leave a blessing on his home so that he would feel better and his home would be a place of peace and refuge from the world! He accepted and Elder Oliver left an amazing blessing on him and his family! The man came out of the prayer with tears of joy! He was so grateful that we were there to bless him and his family! They were so happy to give us their phone number and have us back for a lesson!!

Miracle number 2:
Right after the first miracle Elder Oliver and I kept knocking doors. We met some amazing people and left people with our card. After a while we needed to use the washroom, so we looked for members houses nearby! There was one just on the other side of the block; we could walk to it the short way, or walk the long way up and around the way we already came. Both of us agreed on the longer route. We came up to a bus stop with a nice young lady waiting. We stopped to spread the good news of the gospel with her! Turns out she is from Venezuela and just graduated highschool like me and Elder Oliver. Her and Elder Oliver spoke a lot of spanish together and I just smiled and nodded. She was very open to listening to our message! She even said "Everyone is going to have to listen to you guys at some point, so why not just do it now?" haha they exchanged phone numbers and we were on our way!

Starting a new ESL class out of nowhere!
The thought of starting a new english class in the strathcona chapel came up this week. At first it seemed pretty far away, since the new English connect semester for all the other classes starts next Sunday and there seemed to be a lot of things that had to go right in order to get it started. We were in close communication with the central zone leaders about it for about 16 hours until they call us. "Our ward mission leader and bishop love the idea of starting a class, they want us to start this week." This gave me and Elder Choi 2 days to get this class advertised and ready to go! One thing led to another and boom. We start the new class tonight!

I am so excited to start this new year! This quote from President Nelson from the latest general conference gives me actual goosebumps:

"In the springtime of the year 2020, it will be exactly 200 years since Joseph Smith experienced the theophany that we know as the First Vision. God the Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph, a 14-year-old youth. That event marked the onset of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness, precisely as foretold in the Holy Bible...
Thus, the year 2020 will be designated as a bicentennial year. General conference next April will be different from any previous conference. In the next six months, I hope that every member and every family will prepare for a unique conference that will commemorate the very foundations of the restored gospel.
You may wish to begin your preparation by reading afresh Joseph Smith’s account of the First Vision as recorded in the Pearl of Great Price. Our course of study for next year in Come, Follow Me is the Book of Mormon. You may wish to ponder important questions such as, “How would my life be different if my knowledge gained from the Book of Mormon were suddenly taken away?” or “How have the events that followed the First Vision made a difference for me and my loved ones?” Also, with the Book of Mormon videos now becoming available, you may wish to incorporate them in your individual and family study.
Select your own questions. Design your own plan. Immerse yourself in the glorious light of the Restoration. As you do, general conference next April will be not only memorable; it will be unforgettable."

Let's do everything we can to make all of 2020 an unforgettable year! Prepare yourself and your families for an amazing General Conference coming around in April. Make it a daily goal to "immerse yourself in the glorious light of the Restoration." This is God's kingdom on earth today. We all are so privileged to be here at this time! I love you all, have an amazing first week of the year:)
